Molecular dynamics associated with low-density LRP-1

In this issue of the JID, Del Russo and colleagues comment on an Original Article by Tseng and coworkers. Tseng et al. implicate plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) and associated proteins, acting in concert with low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein-1 (LPR-1), as critical regulators of surface expression of PD-L1 by melanoma cells. The investigators suggest that maintenance of PD-L1 surface expression promoted by PAI-1 inhibition may prevent resistance to anti-PD-1/anti-PD-L1 immunotherapy in patients with melanoma.
