Serine/threonine kinase 11 (STK11) mutations occur in a subset of cutaneous melanomas.

Serine/threonine kinase 11 (STK11) mutations occur in a subset of cutaneous melanomas. Dzung and colleagues explored the significance of STK11 loss in melanoma in vitro and in vivo in zebrafish. In collagen gel cultures of 2 BRAF mutant melanoma cell lines, the investigators demonstrated that STK11 loss-induced invasiveness was attenuated via inhibition of STAT3/5 or FAK.
